Timing your dog's aftercare in Montpellier's climate

What's allowed in Occitanie after your dog dies
Renters and homeowners in Occitanie face different questions. If you rent, your lease and landlord decide whether anything can be buried in the yard, and the answer is usually no. If you own, local ordinances and any homeowners' association or building rules sit on top of what Occitanie allows. Cremation needs nobody's permission, and the ashes can go wherever you move next.
In France, your vet will usually offer incinération collective or individuelle. Individual cremation returns your dog's ashes; collective doesn't. Prices rise with weight, so give your dog's approximate weight when you ask.
If it's happening now: a short plan
- If your dog dies at night, you don't need to call anyone until morning unless you want to. Move your dog to a cool room and cover them with a sheet.
- Put a towel or puppy pad underneath. It's normal for a dog's bladder or bowels to release after death.
- Gently curl your dog into a natural sleeping position during the first hours, while the body is still soft. Both the lifting later and the goodbye itself are easier that way.
