Before you bury or scatter in South Korea
Public land adds its own layer. Parks, beaches, lakes and forests in South Korea are run by different agencies, and each may take its own view on scattering ashes. Many allow it quietly and discreetly, some want a request made in advance, and a few don't allow it at all. If you have a special place in mind, a quick call or a look at the managing agency's website before the day saves an awkward surprise.
In South Korea, burying a pet yourself is generally not allowed, and licensed pet funeral facilities handle cremation, often with a short farewell ceremony and a choice of urns or memorial stones. Some facilities are outside the cities, so ask about collection. Get the price for your dog's weight and a clear list of what the package includes.
What to do when your dog dies in Busan
- Get help lifting. Two people are needed for a big dog, and folding a sheet or blanket into a sling is kinder on everyone, your dog included.
- Move your dog to a cool spot near the door, lying on something waterproof and covered with a blanket.
- Call a provider that can handle a big dog and tell them roughly what your dog weighs, how many stairs there are and whether any corners are awkward.
- Ask whether they'll bring a stretcher and send two people, and check if heavier dogs cost extra.
- Confirm private or communal and the full price, including the urn, which will need to be larger for a big dog.
- Take your keepsakes now: a snip of fur, a nose print or a paw impression.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Busan?
Usually yes. Daegu is about 55 miles away, Daejeon is about 125 miles away and Gwangju is about 126 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Is cremation common in South Korea?

How do I know I'm getting my own dog's ashes back?
Ask the provider how they track each animal. Careful crematories use a numbered tag, often metal, that stays with your dog from collection through cremation and comes back with the ashes, along with a certificate. Ask whether private means your dog is alone in the chamber, as some providers use partitioned cremation with several animals separated. Get the answer in writing.
What if individual pet cremation isn't available near Busan?
In some places the only public service is collective disposal with no ashes returned. If you want your dog's ashes, ask your vet whether a private provider serves your area, even from another city; some will arrange transport. If that isn't possible, a home burial where it's allowed, or a memorial without ashes, are both loving alternatives.
Should I choose cremation or burial for my dog?
Surveys in the US and UK point the same way: roughly two-thirds of bereaved owners choose cremation and about 30% choose burial[8].
