These are uncommon, and your vet will tell you if one applies. For the usual case, a dog who died of age or illness, only burial and scattering bring rules into play.

Your next steps, one at a time
- If your dog dies at night, there's no reason to phone anyone before morning unless it would help you. Carry your dog somewhere cool and lay a sheet over them.
- Put a towel or puppy pad underneath. After death the bladder and bowels often let go, which is nothing to be alarmed by.
- Gently curl your dog into a natural sleeping position during the first hours, while the body is still soft. Both the lifting later and the goodbye itself are easier that way.
- In the morning, call your vet or a crematory that serves Madrid. Tell them your dog's approximate weight and where they are.
