Cremation in California, and what it means for dog owners
Local habits matter in small ways. Where about 70.5%[3] of people are cremated, as in California, relatives are less likely to raise an eyebrow at an urn on the mantelpiece and more likely to have one themselves. Some families keep a dog's ashes so they can one day be scattered or buried alongside a person. If that's something you'd like, ask about the rules for the cemetery or place you have in mind, as they vary.
