Kenmore, Washington
Your dog's aftercare options around Kenmore
Lake-end winters are wet and seldom freeze, and summer afternoons stay comfortable, so there's no cold snap to count on. Choose an indoor spot away from the furnace and bright glass, put your animal on a folded sheet, and plan a pickup or clinic drop-off within a day. Afternoon traffic on Bothell Way crawls, so a morning handover is often easier.
The Burke-Gilman and Sammamish River trails, the pier at Log Boom Park and the wooded paths of Saint Edward State Park give Kenmore residents plenty of green space. Those are public grounds rather than scattering spots, so most households hold the urn indoors or tuck a biodegradable one into a planting bed in their own yard. A picture from the pier can go beside it.
Home burial is more common in smaller communities, especially where people have land. It's a perfectly good choice, but it's worth thinking about whether you'll stay in the property, what's under the ground and whether you'd like to be able to take your dog with you if you ever move. Cremation keeps that option open.
Kenmore's population is around 24,249, the 48th-largest of the 67 Washington communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Seattle, about 11 miles (17 km) away, which is where some providers serving Kenmore are based.
For a second opinion on price, Bothell (3 miles, a larger centre), Woodinville (4 miles) and Mountlake Terrace (4 miles) are close enough that their providers cover Kenmore routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
5,150
Kenmore: dog-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
24,249 ÷ 2.5 = 9,700 households; × 53% (dog) = 5,150. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
410
Kenmore families who lose a dog each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
5,150 dog-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs) ≈ 410 a year. Treat it as a minimum.
53%[1]
53% of US households own a dog, which is about 71 million households.
12.69 years[2]
US dogs have an average life expectancy at birth of 12.69 years.
79.1%[3]
Washington had a 79.1% cremation rate in 2024, among the highest in the US.
$260[4]
CareCredit's 2025 cost study put the US national average for private dog cremation at $260 (range $206-$473).
We built the this numbers from CareCredit (Synchrony) and Montoya et al. 2023, Frontiers in Veterinary Science, and both are worth a look if you want the detail.

How Washington thinks about cremation
A high cremation rate, about 79.1%[3] for people in Washington, also means some local funeral homes offer pet cremation themselves or partner with a pet crematory. That can be a comfortable route if your family already knows a funeral director. Ask them what you'd ask any provider: where the cremation physically takes place, whether your dog will be the only animal cremated at that time, and the expected return date.
Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024) is where the Washington figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Kenmore tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Kenmore weather and timing
Mild places still have wet seasons, and in Kenmore rain is the thing most likely to affect your plans, especially around November. Waterlogged ground makes digging hard and scattering messy, so if you're planning to bury ashes or scatter them on a favorite walk, watch the forecast and keep a dry-weather backup date in mind. There's no reason to hurry.
Mild weather also makes outdoor goodbyes and ceremonies easy for most of the year. Some families in Kenmore scatter ashes on a favorite walk or plant a tree in the garden within weeks of the cremation; others wait for an anniversary. Both are fine.

What you'll likely pay, and what adds to it
US pet services prices, including vet bills, were about 42% higher in 2025 than in 2019[5], so older price lists you find online may understate what Kenmore providers charge today. The ranges below come from a recent cost guide. Use them to spot a quote that's far out of line, then ask for an itemized total covering collection, cremation and the urn.
Multiply it out: roughly 410 dogs a year in Kenmore (our estimate) at the national private-cremation average of $260[4] is about $0.1 million of local spending. That is why it pays to ask two providers, not one.

Rules worth knowing in Washington
Public land adds its own layer. Parks, beaches, lakes and forests in Washington are run by different agencies, and each may take its own view on scattering ashes. Many allow it quietly and discreetly, some want a request made in advance, and a few don't allow it at all. If you have a special place in mind, a quick call or a look at the managing agency's website before the day saves an awkward surprise.
The official Washington local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Kenmore.
Start with the Washington rules, which cover burial, scattering and oversight for the whole state, and treat Kenmore's local ordinances as a possible extra layer.
The first 48 hours, step by step
- If your dog dies at the clinic, you don't have to decide on aftercare before you leave. Ask the team to keep your dog in their cold room while you think it over.
- Ask for time alone with your dog in a quiet room first. Most clinics in Kenmore will make space, even on a busy day.
- Ask which crematory the clinic uses and the price of both private and communal cremation for a dog the size of yours.
- Take the collar home with you, and ask the nurses whether they can make a paw impression or save some fur.
- Call back within a day or two with your decision. Should you prefer another provider, that provider can pick your dog up from the clinic.
- Ask how the ashes will come back: delivered to your home, returned to the clinic or collected from the crematory.
Keeping your dog close
Kenmore sits at the northern tip of Lake Washington in King County, about 11 miles northeast of downtown Seattle, where the Sammamish River meets the lake. It's mostly residential, with older single-family homes, newer townhouses and apartments along Bothell Way, and a seaplane base on the lakefront. Clinics in Bothell, Lake Forest Park and Seattle are all close, so knowing which one your vet sends aftercare through is the main thing to settle ahead of time.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Kenmore?
Usually yes. Bothell is about 3 miles away, Woodinville is about 4 miles away and Mountlake Terrace is about 4 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Is Kenmore big enough to have several dog aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 5,150 Kenmore households keep a dog and around 410 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 24,249), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Does the Kenmore climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In August, with highs near 77°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
Will I have to travel to Seattle to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Seattle (roughly 11 miles from Kenmore) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Who should I tell after my dog dies in Kenmore?
Start with your vet, so reminders stop and their records are closed. Then contact your microchip registry, your pet insurer if you have one and, if your dog was licensed or registered, the local office that issued it. Groomers, walkers and daycare will appreciate a short message too. Doing it all in one sitting spares you painful reminders arriving weeks later.
Is dog cremation more common than burial in Washington?
For people, about 79.1%[3] of deaths in Washington end in cremation, and pet aftercare tends to follow similar habits. For dogs, cremation is now the most common choice among families who want to keep their pet close, especially in towns and suburbs.
