The local attitude to cremation
A high cremation rate, about 99.97%[1] for people in Japan, also means some local funeral homes offer pet cremation themselves or partner with a pet crematory. That can be a comfortable route if your family already knows a funeral director. Ask them what you'd ask any provider: where the cremation physically takes place, whether your dog will be the only animal cremated at that time, and the expected return date.

Kawasaki weather and timing

Burial and scattering rules for Kanagawa
You don't need a permit to have your dog cremated, but what you do afterwards, burying them at home or scattering their ashes in a park, can be governed by local rules. Here's what applies in Kanagawa.
In Japan, pet funerals are an established tradition, often with a short ceremony and the option of a temple columbarium. Ask whether the ashes are returned (返骨) rather than assuming it; some municipal collection routes don't return remains.

- Choose private or communal, and ask for written confirmation of which one it is.
- Plan where the ashes will go. There's no deadline on this one; the urn can stay on a shelf for months if that's what you need.
Ways to remember your dog locally
Summers in Kawasaki are hot and humid, and winters are cool but mild. In July and August, keep the air conditioner running in the room where your pet lies, and tuck cold packs under a folded towel beside the body, not directly on the fur. Very few homes here have garden space for a grave, and rented flats have none, so cremation is the usual choice. If you rent, check your building's rules before arranging anything on the premises.

Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Kawasaki?
Usually yes. Yokohama is about 7 miles away, Setagaya is about 8 miles away and Minato is about 9 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.

What if individual pet cremation isn't available near Kawasaki?
In some places the only public service is collective disposal with no ashes returned. Ask the provider how they track each animal. Careful crematories use a numbered tag, often metal, that stays with your dog from collection through cremation and comes back with the ashes, along with a certificate. Ask whether private means your dog is alone in the chamber, as some providers use partitioned cremation with several animals separated. Get the answer in writing.
