It helps to separate two sets of rules in Catalonia: those for a whole body and those for ashes. Burying a dog's body usually comes with conditions on where and how, mainly to protect groundwater and wells. Ashes are treated far more lightly almost everywhere, because they're dry, sterile bone mineral. That's why many families who want a grave to visit choose cremation first and then bury the urn.
In Spain, most vets work with a pet crematorium and can arrange individual cremation (incineración individual), which returns your dog's ashes, or collective cremation, which doesn't. Rules on burying pets at home vary by region and municipality and are often strict in towns, so cremation is the usual choice. Ask for a written price for your dog's weight.
